Weavings: High Noon

Just finished another large wall hanging. This weaving was inspired by Native American designs, retro bohemian living rooms & the great Wild West. I've called it 'High Noon' :)
You can see all my available weavings on my Etsy shop.

Runic Markings... & more portraits

Figuring out a signature mark for my art, based on my first and middle name initials, YA (Yasmine Amber). I decided on the design at the bottom. It incorporates a crescent moon and a tringle/pyramid/mountain in a runic/hieroglyphic-style marking. I like that it looks like a dancer too.

Need more practice drawing hands (more tips here).

Pug-i-corn!

These little fellas are gonna be all over my paintings.

And now with little magic rainbows activated!

Baphomet Embroidery

Tattoo style baphomet embroidery design on my improvised, cardboard and pegs embroidery hoop. (WIP)

Portraits

Faces: my favourite thing to draw. + practice drawing eyes and mouths.
Incorporating tone values (light and shadow) into warm-up exercises, as well as perspective practice (by drawing 3D shapes on a grid).

Visit To Willow's

Let me explain all the ellipses and vertical lines. They're warmup exercises, and I've been doing them everyday before I start drawing.
I've been really inspired by Brandon Dayton's blog and his method for How To Practice Drawing, a daily routine of Warm Up exercises, Study (of a technique, skill and/or other artists' work) and Application of that skill. His blog is full of helpful tips on drawing practise.

Spent the weekend at Willow's place in Woltersdorf. More flower drawings, including some little daisies, as well as a couple of quick sketches of Paul in the evening dark.

Tattoo Art Style

Have been loving the clean, defined lines of tattoo art at the moment. I bought Megamunden'sTattoo Colouring Book - what an awesome front cover - practised drawing tattoo flowers in his style.
Also, Melbourne tattooist, Emily Rose Murray, is blowing my mind with her amazing work.
Check out my Pinterest board Tattoo & Street Art for more inspiration.

Previously on The Weaving Front...

My latest obsession has been weaving. So I'll get you up to date with what I've been doing on that front.
I kept coming across all sorts of woven art (see a hefty sample on my pinterest weaving board), and I love the retro 70s handmade vibe this art has going, so I built my first lap loom from a piece of wood and nails. It slots in between two pieces of wood tied together with elastic, which serve as my stand, so I can work on it upright at my desk.

My second loom is bigger. I made it with 3 longer pieces of wood, nailed together, with evenly spaced nails along the top and bottom. Here it is all strung up and ready for weaving!

And here's what I've woven, so far:

The weaving above was done on the big loom. It's about 1.4m in length.

This weaving was done on the branch, with macrame knot fringing. I love that this branch looks like antlers.

All my weavings are available at my Etsy shop Orsino Nation WOVEN, along with more pictures if you feel so inclined.

Tschuss for now!

And so it BEGINS!

Hi, I'm Yasmine. Currently I live in Berlin, but am heading back to Australia in October for the big, empty spaces and wide, open skies. :)

I am an artist. I create music and sing with Orsino Nation, I dance flamenco and make theatre, I weave and embroider, draw and paint, write fiction and poetry. I'm also interested in interior design, clothes and decoration and so am often crafting something for around the home or to adorn...sometimes I attempt to sew. I probably shouldn't. I also love film.

I've decided to start a blog to document my art and process, as well as sources of inspiration, ideas...basically an artistic journal. I have just started drawing again and plan to get back into painting when I get back to Australia, so I'm currently doing dedicated practice in my sketchbook.

You can find me on the world wide interweb:
see my inspiration boards at my Pinterest,
listen to my music at the Orsino Nation website, bandcamp and soundcloud
buy weavings on my etsy
view my bookshelf on Shelfari
peruse my film-watching habits at imdb
also, Facebook.

Tschuss!

Me!
